Abby Severyn | Structural
Adviser: Dr. Ryan Solnosky
The purpose of this report is to examine the existing conditions and structural design of the Mercy Health Muskegon addition. The emphasis will be on identifying key features of the structural system and elements that will affect future structural analyses and designs.
Technical Report 1 (9/12/18)
Structural Existing Conditions Report
The purpose of this report is to summarize the design loads to be used in further analysis of the Mercy Health Muskegon hospital addition. The intent is to provide detailed calculations of the gravity loads supported by typical bays and the lateral loads resisted by the lateral force-resisting systems.
Technical Report 2 (10/1/18)
Notebook Submission A: Building Codes, Specifications, and Loads
The purpose of this notebook is to compare an existing typical floor bay with alternative systems to determine if any of the alternatives warrant more in-depth investigation for future analysis and design of the Mercy Health Muskegon project. The existing typical floor bay framing is analyzed for gravity loads, and three alternate framing systems are designed for gravity loads. The scope of analysis and design includes a typical bay and columns in the bed tower of the Mercy Health Muskegon addition.
Technical Report 3 (10/19/18)
Notebook Submission B: Typical Member Spot Checks for Gravity Loads and Alternate Systems Typical Bay Design Study
The purpose of this notebook is to analyze the existing lateral system of the Mercy Health Muskegon addition. An ETABS model is used to calculate and compare loads and forces in the lateral force-resisting elements. Several checks are performed to very the modeling software results and to analyze the lateral system for strength and serviceability.
